Mid-market WCM products continue to chug along in 2011(Via Irina Guseva)

“In our recent 20.1 release of the WCM Report, we've updated evaluations of several CMS vendors in the .NET arena, including DotNetNuke, Ektron, Kentico, and SharePoint.

The lower half of this tier -- what we call mid-market products -- is a bit like the crowded Grand Central station: arrivals are more or less according to schedule, the orchestration is in place, and innovation is sparse. The .NET CMS darlings who dominate this tier are not necessarily shaking up the universe, but merrily chugging along.

The demise of former mid-market stalwarts RedDot (Open Text Web Solutions) and Immediacy (Alterian CMC) is an indicator to the Darwinian evolution in the jam-packed space. There are many choices in the mid-market CMS product tier even as some offerings like Sitecore differentiate themselves by becoming more platform-like (read: complex). Only the fittest will survive”

SharePoint 2010 SP1 Disappointment (Via Tony)

SharePoint have released its service pack. Tony is pointing out some of the flaws in this service pack. Even though the SharePoint is out there for three years even in these long three years Tony not satisfied with the progress/improvement speed of it.

SharePoint 2010 Content Query for Blog Posts(Via Erik Swenson)

“I hope this post will help many of you feel comfortable with using the Content Query Web Part.

In this post I will walk you through the process of creating a content query web part and configuring it to show custom field types. I will also give details on how to use XSLT to stylize and format the data being pulled.

I will be using the following scenario as an example. Say that you had a site collection with a top level publishing site. This publishing site would display a most recent blog posts from all blog sites within its own site collection.

microsoft visual studio is waiting for an operation to complete

As usual I found the solution for this MS problem on a non-Microsoft site. The following blog post has the fix to resolve this issue:

Error: Visual Studio is waiting for an operation to complete.
By the way, I am using VS 2010. This error was first reported for VS 2005. It seems it never got fixed in the subsequent VS releases.
VS shows two options: "Switch To" and "Wait". Both offer no help.
Solution: Kill rdpclip.exe process

Speaking at SharePoint Conference New Zealand 2011 (Via Randy Williams)

“I’m very excited to be making my first trip to New Zealand in March 2011 to speak at the SharePoint Conference New Zealand. This event is run by Debbie Ireland and her amazing team at EnvisionIT, the same company I worked with to bring this event to Singapore last October. The conference date is March 16 and 17 in Wellington.
In addition to these two, jam-packed days of content, there will also be half-day, hands-on workshops running the day before and after the conference. Some of these still have seats, but don’t wait--I know these are going fast. One of my workshop sessions is a SharePoint 2010 session for developers scheduled on March 15.
